Debate

The series of four courses is designed for students (G3-8) with varying levels of experience and skills in the field of debate. By beginning with an introduction to basic debate concepts, students with little to no knowledge are able to learn the information necessary for future success.  As they progress through the course series, students continue to develop and hone initial debate-related skills while learning the in’s and out’s of specific academic debate events. All of the Debate Program courses are available at the elementary school (G3-5) or middle school (G6-8) levels.

No matter the level, the courses improve students’ critical thinking, logic and reasoning skills by teaching argumentation in systematic and structured ways. Through practice, whether in class or during competitions, students develop superb public speaking skills and confidence. Additionally, preparation for formal debates helps students hone their research and writing skills. 

Students who complete this series of courses are prepared to compete in debate competitions alongside peers who participate on in-school debate teams.
