Early Childhood
Early Childhood education at Maccabee Academy includes a series of three English courses designed for students aged 3 to 5. This exciting program instills a love for learning by engaging students with a variety of resources and activities that are designed to enhance all aspects of English-language utilization — including reading, listening, speaking and writing. Designed as students’ first formal interactions with English, the courses are meant to create a solid foundation upon which students can build life-long learning. The individual courses include:
Level 1
Target Student: Age 3-5; Not able to recognize and pronounce all 26 letters
Course Description: Time in class is spent developing children’s speaking and listening skills and laying the foundation for early phonics practice. The course is organized so that half of each class is spent developing early phonics skills and half is spent focusing on a special unit of study. These units of study vary from rainbows, transportation, weather, community helpers, and so on, and are concerned with building vocabulary skills. Students explore each special topic through books, songs, dance, movement, coloring, and crafts.
