Root Words
Words, in their most basic sense, are the foundation of any language. But in fact, words have even more elemental components known as morphemes. Commonly referred to as “roots,” but encompassing prefixes, bases and suffixes, these components of the English language are the key to understanding meaning. Knowledge of just 100 root words derived from Greek and Latin reveals the meaning to over 4,000 words in the English language. This course teaches not only the roots themselves, but also underlying theories, techniques and tricks for memorization that can be applied to future studies. This course is ideal for students looking to expand their vocabulary, whether as a supplement to their normal ELA courses, in preparation for standardized tests (ISEE, SSAT, TOEFL & SAT), or for exploring subject-specific interests. The course is available for students Age 8 and older. The students are grouped with those similar to their age.
