Flying into the Scientific Method
The engaging series of classes will use paper airplanes to teach students about the scientific method. Students will be introduced to the various stages of the scientific method and then led through the process of experimentation. The course provides students with an opportunity to learn practical terminology and definitions, examine scientific concepts and conduct their own experiments. Specific topics to be covered include: The Scientific Method, Experimental Design, Data Collection & Analysis, Independent Investigation and Scientific Presentations. By the end of the course, students will be able to independently and systematically explore scientific topics of interest. Available for students in G3-5.
Space Science for Elementary School Students
Through learning about our Earth, solar system, outer solar system, and galaxies, students will explore the Big Bang theory, aliens, dark matter, and black holes, as well technologies that humans utilize to observe and research to gain understanding of the vast world beyond our planet. They will also use their own imaginations to hypothesize what might be beyond our solar system, including theories that may include science-fiction. Available for students in G2-3 and G3-5.
Life Science for Elementary School Students
In this class students will investigate plants and animals, biomes and habitats, food chains and life cycles, Earth’s resources, weather and seasons, matter, animal classification, animal and plant extinction. Students who are interested in scientific inquiry, problem solving, and critical thinking are engaged through a vibrant online environment with graphics, animations, video, real-time feedback, activities, projects, and tests. Creative writing and public speaking are an integral part of the class curriculum, producing a cross-curricular approach. Available for students in G1-2 and G2-3.
