Our students come from diverse backgrounds with a variety of languages spoken at home. One of our youngest students, aged just 4, comes from a family that speaks Chinese at home. Additionally, the family decided to opt for homeschooling for the 2020-2021 school year given safety concerns. In order to make up for the loss of English-language exposure, the student has been 45min of lessons Monday-Friday for the past year. Although the class is only 45min, the impact is significant and has an effect on the student’s entire day. The teacher and student have formed such a bond that the teacher provided a very strong recommendation letter for the student’s private school application to her “Dream Kindergarten.” With the support of the tutor, both academically and social-emotionally, the student was recently accepted.
