One of our Spring & Summer 2020 early childhood students was initially a pre-reader, having trouble with various aspects of reading -- including phonics, sight words, etc. Rather than let COVID-19 disturb his learning, the family signed him up for tutoring with Maccabee Academy. Throughout the Spring, he participated in 1:1 tutoring and quickly developed the early literacy skills necessary to join a small-group class. Over the summer, he was able to enroll in intensive Early Childhood courses alongside tutoring. By the time Fall 2020 arrived, the student impressed his Kindergarten teacher so much that he was promoted to the 1st grade reading class at school. With targeted intervention and commitment to academic progress, this student was able to quickly advance to the top of his class.
