Online Beginner Debate

This is an Intro to Debate course for students with limited or no experience who are interested in competitive debate. In this week-long, full-day camp, debaters will learn the fundamental skills they’ll need for competitive debating from the comfort of their homes.

This course is available online and in person.

What You'll Learn:

Debaters will learn how to formulate their ideas into logical arguments and how to generate new ideas based on research. The camp will consist of regular practice drills with a final debate at the conclusion of the camp. This course will have regular homework assignments related to competition preparation.

Daily Schedule.

Warm Up/Attendance (15 minutes)
Review/Preview Daily Lesson Plan (5 minutes)
  • Teachers will review previous lessons and preview upcoming lesson objectives
Direct Instruction & Lecture (30 minutes)
  • Teacher provides direct instruction to students.
10 minute break
Guided Practice (1 hour)
  • Students apply lesson material through practice debates, drills and short written assignments.
Feedback & Review (30 minutes)
10 minute break
Redos & Reteach (20 minutes)
  • Students complete redo speeches, make corrections, teacher clarifies and reviews concepts, assigns homework, written or recorded performance.
