What our debaters say
“As a longtime student of Mr.Flowers, I was encouraged to push the boundary in terms of my creative abilities. He placed a really high value on innovation, and that lesson stuck with me.The most important lesson that I learned from Mr.Flowers was to stop finding reasons why something couldn’t or shouldn’t be done, and instead, to buckle down and make something great. He made it clear to me that both stepping outside of your comfort zone and having a willingness to mess up a little bit in the process of innovation were great things.”
Adithya K
"Mr. Flowers taught our class to take a step back and breathe, before speaking publicly. His humanity brought most of us to a comfort zone that I’ve never seen before in a large group of diverse students. Mr. Flowers also pushed our class. His lessons made us think about different ways to comprehend the problem or task at hand to create different solutions and/or counterpoints to the debate topic at hand."
Jackson F
"Mr. Flowers was the first to help me come out of my shell and stand my ground when debating. I really enjoyed how Mr. Flowers was very energetic and fun with his teach style. He helped us learn how to debate through games and even sang songs at tournaments."
Christina S
"Mr. Flowers was always willing to sit down one-on-one with students if they were confused about anything from the class lesson. If there was a specific topic that a student was interested in, Flowers was always the type to help facilitate their education around that topic."
Somer S.

“My goal as an educator is to share the transformative power of debate with every student. I believe debate not only creates better thinkers and communicators, but it also empowers students to find and develop their voices.

As a former competitor and current coach, I have spent most of my life teaching students the skills and concepts necessary for a successful debate career. I place growth at the center of my teaching and am confident any student can use debating as a vehicle for great success.”

Coaching honor

NSDA Diamond Coach Award × 2

The National Speech & Debate Association's highest coaching distinction — awarded to coaches who have transformed the lives of hundreds of student competitors.

State championship

6 State Debate Champions

Six students coached to state-level titles — a track record built on preparation, precision, and the competitive edge that comes from genuinely small-room coaching.

National stage

Tournament of Champions Qualifiers

The most selective invitational in US high school debate. Only those who have earned bids at top qualifying tournaments may compete — our students have earned their place.

Good questions

Before you enroll.

We're not in the US — can my child still join?
Yes. Every session is fully online and open to students anywhere. Grades 6–8 offers Class A at 7:30 PM China/Singapore Time (7:30 AM ET) and Class B at 9:30 AM ET — there is a time that fits most of the world comfortably. The time-zone guide above shows where each session lands for your region.
What is the minimum commitment?
Grades 6–8: two weeks minimum. Grades 4–6: four weekends minimum. Each week or weekend is a self-contained module — sessions do not need to be consecutive. Students choose the dates that work best for their summer.
How small are the classes?
Every session is capped at 8 students. That limit is intentional — it means every child gets real speaking time and direct, specific coaching in each session, not a lecture-hall experience.
What format do students learn?
Grades 6–8 study Public Forum — the most widely competed format at US tournaments. Students learn to build a case, conduct research, cross-examine, and deliver rebuttals under pressure. Grades 4–6 start with a confidence-first introduction: speaking games, structured arguments, and friendly mini-debate rounds.
What does it cost, and how do I pay?
Grades 6–8: $209 per week (2-week minimum). Grades 4–6: $140 per weekend (4-weekend minimum); the August 22 Saturday-only session is $70. Payment is by Zelle — no fee, send to accounting@maccabeecoaching.com with your child's full name in the memo — or credit card, which adds a 4% processing fee. Questions?
